The Transmission Project is the power evacuation system from the project and entails construction of a 400 kV D/C transmission line from the power project site to 400 kV D/C Bongaigaion sub-station of PGCIL in Assam. Activities related to the transmission system have been  segregated from OTPC and transferred to a new company viz. M/s North East Transmission Company Ltd.  (NETCL). The development and operation of the power transmission would be undertaken by M/s North East Transmission Company Ltd. (NETCL).
The Proposed Share holding Pattern of NETC is as given below:

  • Power Grid      26%
  • OTPC             26%
  • Tripura           10%
  • Mizoram          10%
  • Assam            13%
  • Manipur           6%
  • Meghalaya       5%
  • Nagaland         4%

North East has very small capacity to absorb power and implementation of the generation project essentially requires evacuation of power from the North East to the rest of the country. There are no high voltage 400/220 kV transmission lines in the entire state of Tripura. Hence, the power evacuation system entails construction of a  400 kV AC transmission line from Pallatana (the generation project site) to 400 kV receiving substation of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited ("PGCIL") at Bongaigaon in upper Assam over a distance of around 650 kms.

The 400 KV AC transmission project from Pallatana to Bongaigaon would be developed and implemented by ONGC - Tripura Power Company Private Ltd. PowerGrid Corporation of India Ltd. has been appointed as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the Transmission Line.

Configuration

The power generated from the proposed power plant will be delivered to the existing 400 kV substation of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) at Bongaigaon through dedicated 400kV D/C transmission lines. It will also be connected to the Tripura state grid through a separate 220 kV system. This 400 kV transmission line would pass through three states namely Tripura, Meghalaya and Assam and the total length of the transmission line would be around 650 kms.

The figure below depicts the proposed 400 kV D/C transmission line from the power project site to 400 kV D/C Bongaigaion sub-station of PGCIL in Assam. The total length is  650 kms.
